Extremist Sentenced to 9 Years for Destruction of Cultural Heritage Site


In August, Clancco visited the question: can destroying cultural objects be prosecuted as a war crime?  This past week Ahmad al-Faqi al-Mahdi, was sentenced to nine years in prison. He initially faced up to 30 years in prison for destroying a Muslim cultural heritage site in Timbuktu, Mali.
