Quilting Copyrights, The Case of Amish Creativity

“Light in the Valley,” a quilt pattern (seen above) that creates an optical illusion that lends it a three-dimensional effect, can no longer be quilted, at least not unless it’s licensed or falls under fair use.

Apparently, an Amish woman registered the copyright to the design pattern some years ago and she recently sold that copyright to the Almost Amish, an internet company focused on selling (mostly) Amish products. According to Almost Amish, it intends to police its copyright vigorously.
