Obama’s Blessing: To See Is To Believe!

Back in April of ’07, msnbc.com reported on art student David Cordero’s decision to materialize Barack Obama’s messianic predilection via sculptural form. Although Obama expressed his dislike for the art piece, it’s a bit difficult to believe him after hearing him describe his speeches this past Saturday as such: “At the end—or maybe somewhere in the middle—a shaft of light comes through and hits you and you experience an epiphany: I have to vote for Barack.”

One usually assigns nothing but ignorance and heavenly idealism to youth, but Cordero’s brain seems to have an ounce of reason:

“All of this is a response to what I’ve been witnessing and hearing, this idea that Barack is sort of a potential savior that might come and absolve the country of all its sins,” Cordero said. “In a lot of ways it’s about caution in assigning all these inflated expectations on one individual, and expecting them to change something that many hands have shaped.”

Unfortunately, not every young voter is like Cordero. Christopher Beam of Slate magazine reports that “[a]fter watching the speech [at Nashua North High School], Matt Dibella, 20, from Nashua, said he was initially undecided. I asked who he’s for now. ‘Obama,’ he said. ‘Because I just saw him.’ That seems to be the way it works for many young people: To see him is to be for him.”
