Czech Artists Face Double Jeopardy

Clancco covered this story back in late March of this year, concerning a group of seven Czech artists who were acquitted of hacking into a live panoramic broadcast on June 17, 2007, and simulating a nuclear explosion. Viewers watching the public broadcaster Czech Television saw a bright flash of light followed by an ominous mushroom cloud in the distance, intended to represent a nuclear blast.

However, according to the NY Times and the AP, the Czech state prosecutor appealed the verdict (apparently no such thing as double jeopardy in Czechoslovakia), and due to this appeal, “[a] Czech appeals court has ordered a retrial for seven artists who hacked into a Czech television weather broadcast…[.] The court ordered a new trial [for spreading false information] but did not yet set a date. If found guilty, the artists face maximum jail terms of three years.”

False information? Just watch MSNBC or any Obama media coverage…
