George Lucas and His Legal Stormtroopers

True to courtroom myth, today George “Litigious” Lucas and his legal stormtroopers sued the original designer and creator of the Stormtrooper outfit in a British court for copyright and trademark infringement. Usual to “smart” appropriationists, Lucas claims the Stormtrooper outfit was at least one-year into design before Andrew Ainsworth got involved. According to the Associated Press:

“Lucasfilm won a $20 million judgment against Ainsworth in a California court in 2006, and is seeking to have it enforced in Britain. Ainsworth is countersuing, claiming the copyright rests with him and seeking a share of merchandising revenue from the six ‘Star Wars’ films, which his lawyers estimate at $24 billion.”

Lucas was believed to have uttered that if Ainsworth doesn’t pony-up, he will sick the mean wrath of Yoda upon him. Nine days left in this ongoing saga. Read more from AP.
